Setting Affirmations

Setting Affirmations

We can all get caught up in limiting beliefs, and I find by setting a daily affirmation will help guide you with a positive mindset. With this mindset, it will help guide you and motivate you to work towards your goals and to remind you of your worth. Whenever I get caught up with a negative mindset ( it can happen, Im, only human) I like to remind myself of my affirmation that I set, and it puts that smile back on my face, changes my mood and helps me get back into gear, and I set myself up for success. Why Mindset Is Important to Me

Why Mindset Is Important to Me

Maintaining a positive, healthy mindset has become my top priority in the past few years. Throughout my life, It has been a work in progress. When I look back to where I started to where and who I am today, it fills me up with so much pride and continues to inspire me to keep working at becoming the best version of myself. I know that the life I am creating for myself will only improve as long as I don’t take steps backwards and keep up with a happy—positive, healthy mindset.
So let’s go back to the beginning when I was not so positive because some of you are probably thinking “Ok Chelsie not everyone just wakes up loving life and has so much positivity”, and your right and I know this because I use to be this person for a very very long time. Bringing My Hair Back To Life

Bringing My Hair Back To Life

Anyone who is really close to me will fully understand my love and passion for my hair. Im, not one to be caught up in the appearance of my hair or always checking myself out every opportunity I get, but I have a lot of respect and love for my hair and I will tell you why.

My passion for my hair strives off of pride. Pride in myself for overcoming a lifestyle that was threatening to my health. It was a time in my life where I was fragile, broken, lost and unhappy. I was suffering from my mental health more than ever as I was so caught up in a lifestyle fueled by drugs and alcohol that lead me to have no perception of what day of the week it was. I had spent a few weeks sleepless and decided that I needed a haircut, I have no idea at this time what exactly was going through my head but I thought it would be a great idea to cut all my hair off to just above my ears over a three-day span. Just imagine that for one second… I was so embarrassed and ashamed I would wear hats to hide it. When my hair started growing back I felt beautiful again, valued and had started feeling respect for myself. It was the beginning of the transformation to who I am today. I take pride in my hair and keep it healthy as a reminder of my respect and how hard I have worked to not get to that point again.

Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter

Like many, the past couple of weeks gave really impacted how I see everyday life. It has been brought to my attention just how much privilege I have for being white and as I am grateful for my privilege I am hurt that having this privilege exists.
It saddens me that after all these years people get judged and bullied for the colour of their skin. it is so wrong and we need to do better.

Friday was Juneteenth which is known as freedom day or emancipation day, it’s an annual American holiday that commenced June 19th, 1865, the ending of slavery. Here in Vancouver we had a march in unity and as much as I wanted to be apart of it, I couldn’t escape work but I was lucky enough to catch it on my way home and it was such an amazing sight to see, a powerful feeling listening to all the chants and the passion in everyone’s voices. It gave me hope and put a smile on my face to see everyone coming together to create change, to express community values, morals, and wants.  Let’s keep that up! Setting Intentions

Setting Intentions

As you know by now I am all about self-development. I have put my focus on energy and how I absorb the energy and react to it. I wanted to share this because if I didn’t stick to setting intentions over the past week while my mental health was testing me, I don’t think I would have made it through successfully. before I started implementing my daily intentions I was feeling so overwhelmed with a feeling that I had no purpose or wasn’t growing because the reality was I was growing and I did have a purpose but being caught up in a negative mindset had me seeing life through a strong fog. So fast forward to today where I had spent the last several months working with a coach to create a healthy, positive mindset. Sometimes we just need a little push or a handhold to get us through our fog. So that’s what brings me to setting intentions and how these keep me in line with myself, goals, and maintain a healthy mindset Continue reading “Setting Intentions”

My 5 Non-Negotiables

My 5 Non-Negotiables

I have really been focusing on energy lately, what motivates me, what keeps me productive, what minimizes my anxiety, what makes me happy. It is SO easy for me to become distracted, unmotivated, overwhelmed and I would feel like I was trapped in a bubble but could still see the outside world so clearly. I hired a coach to help me stay on track and my head clear from negativity. It’s true what they say… when you feel better you have more energy, confidence and happiness. SO in one of my sessions with my amazing coach, we discussed Non-negotiables and how they set the right mood for your day and give you a positive mindset. Continue reading “My 5 Non-Negotiables”

A Day In The Life Of A Simple Girl- Quarantined Edition

A Day In The Life Of A Simple Girl- Quarantined Edition

Keeping a routine is very important to me and I feel the moment I don’t everything seems to fall out of place and I don’t feel structured.
With all that’s going on in the world right now and living in isolation for a month, I wanted to share the daily routine that helps me keep up with my goals and feeling like I still have a structure to my life. I am the type of person that falls into ruts easily and has a harder time getting out of them than in so again this is very important for me to stick to during these times so I don’t get stuck in a rut of being unmotivated.

Dear Daddy

Dear Daddy

I love journaling, its something that I starting doing just a couple months back and has really helped me with getting things out that are on my mind. Growing up writing was something I loved doing, it was my way of expressing my feelings and not feeling trapped with them inside my head, I wrote songs, poems, stories etc. it was my passion but I found that I drifted away from it and was having the most difficult time getting back into it. I started my blog and was very passionate about writing again but would find myself in a writer’s block over and over again and it wasn’t until I started journaling that I started to get that passion and flow back.
Last week my coach had given me a bunch of journaling prompts to keep me on track with writing and expressing my self through words. One of those prompts was to write a letter to someone that is no longer here today and tell them how you feel and what you wish you could tell them..This one hit me hard and of course, I chose my dad as the timing could not have been more perfect. I experienced feelings I haven’t for a while or even possible feelings I just never let go, I cried I laughed and I smiled It felt like a weight on my shoulders was lifted that I didn’t even know was there. So, of course, I wanted to share it with you! this was such a  powerful feeling to me and after 13 years I feel a connection that he never left, I feel a connection that he is looking over me and I would start to see little reminders that he was still there. I highly recommend trying out this journal prompt for yourself but just be ready to really go through some emotions and release a lot of feelings.

Then And Now

Then And Now

I wanted to share a little of my story and let you get to know me a little more on a personal level. With some new faces around the blog, I thought now would be the perfect time to open up.

I started The Life Of A Simple Girl during a time in my life where I felt I was just figuring things out and feeling more aligned with myself and my life. It became a passion to share my story with others in the hope it could help or impact someone else in any way. I wanted it to be a place of realness and a place anyone could come and feel safe and inspired. Continue reading “Then And Now”
